Sumesa is the most expensive department store.

MEXICO CITY, Jun 6, 2002

Sumesa stores sell basic products at the highest price among the 18 retail establishments included in a recent sample done by the Federal Consumer Attorney General's office (Profeco) in Mexico City. The study compares the prices of 71 basic products such as hygiene items, dairy, bread and others sold in different supermarkets and warehouse stores. The study found that Sumesa had the highest prices in 29 of the products, compared to Aurrera, Comercial Mexicana, Gigante, Carrefour, Superama, Super G, Chedrahui, Wal-Mart and others. Sumesa was followed by Super G. The lowest prices were reported at Bodega Aurrera and the government stores run by the State Workers Social Security and Services Institute (ISSSTE), the Chedrahui chain and the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) stores.
