Sprawled on the floor of her Brooklyn apartment, Nancy Vitale was left for dead -- by her landlord, by police, even by an emergency technician.

But more than two and a half hours after she was officially pronounced dead, her cold, lifeless body stirred, police said.

Vitale, 40, was in critical condition at Coney Island Hospital with an undisclosed ailment Tuesday as authorities tried to sort out how a person who lay dying at the feet of a medical examiner was mistaken for a corpse.
